Just configured fingerprint authentication on my ThinkPad T14s under Debian and it worked first time. The device is listed as '27c6:6594 Shenzhen Goodix Technology Co.,Ltd. Goodix USB2.0 MISC'.

After a couple of days using my new ThinkPad T14s, I really like the new keyboard, compared to the keyboard on the T470s. The keys have a slightly shallower stroke and feel more clicky/tactile. I thought it would be difficult to improve on the keyboard from the T470s, but then again, I thought that about the keyboard on my old X220 as well. To be fair, I think they are all good, but I'm really liking this new one.

Installed Debian on my new ThinkPad T14s tonight. Everything seems to be working nicely and it definitely feels like a good upgrade over my old T470s. Geekbench results:

T470s: 1242 single-core - 2592 multi-core
T14s: 2427 single-core - 10519 multi-core

TBH, the numbers don't mean much to me, other than being a metric to justify the investment in new hardware. Anyhow, I think I'm going to enjoy this device.

I've ordered a ThinkPad T14s Gen 3 as a replacement for my T470s. It should arrive tomorrow. I'd better start making a backup of my home directory. I think I'm going to give Borg a try -- I remember hearing about it on the Linux Matters podcast and I've been wanting to give it a try since. www.borgbackup.org

Today, I ditched my desktop computer in favour of using my laptop. My desktop has a 10th gen Intel CPU and my laptop has a 7th gen Intel CPU. Other than that, both machines have a 1TB NVMe drive and 16GB of RAM. The laptop is perfectly usable, but also noticeably slower. I may require a new laptop.
