Effy does CrunchBang

I enjoy listening to the TuxRadar podcast, I think it is witty and insightful. If you have not listened to the podcast before, it is well worth a download. Anyhow, the podcast has a “You Dare Us” feature, where the presenters take on a new challenge to perform, before talking about it on the next episode.

The current challenge is for the presenters to contribute “something” to an open source project and Efrain Hernandez-Mendoza talked about how he is planning to contribute by redesigning a logo. Effy said:

After looking at various icons and distribution logos, I came to the conclusion that I should contribute by redesigning a logo for a distribution. Some of the logos that I saw they do look like corporate identities, some of them look quite amateur, some of them look quite professional, but I think the worst one is CrunchBang Linux…

…basically it seems like someone just typed it.

LOL. I am really excited to see what Effy comes up with. Many people have attempted to redesign the logo before, and the results are always interesting. Good luck, Effy. :)

If anyone is interested in listening to the feature, you can download the full episode, or listen to the clip below.

@Hanna, agreed! I have my own thoughts about the logo, but I did not want to write about them just yet. I will wait to see what Effy comes up with first, and then add my comments. :)

I concur, the TuxRadar podcast has to be one of the greatest Linux podcasts out there. I laugh at every show!

Listening to the full episode a week ago,” …basically it seems like someone just typed it,” I thought to myself, “yeah. Saves time that way.”

[#!] is symbolic short-hand for Crunchbang. I’m not even sure it’s a logo in the traditional sense.

But art-people have to do art, so have at it, Effy. I’ll stick to reliable code, thank you…

Perhaps Effy’s efforts could lead to a new logo competition at the forums LOLZ!!!

Muchas gracias por sus buenos deseos y espero no decepcionarlos Now, it is in my own interest to do a good job trying to re-design the logo so I do not want to disappoint you all. Visual language is all I know, also it’s my job and that is what I analyse day after day, I took on this challenge because I think the logo can be improved but I meant no disrespect at all, so, I do apologise if anyone feels offended by my comments. Muchas gracias. Efrain

@Efrain, no offence taken. I am genuinely interested to see what you come up with. If you need anything from me, please do not hesitate to ask. Good luck. :)

Hey, @Efrain, no one’s offended. We like outside interest.

Personally, I like the fact that Crunchbang can be abbreviated with [#!]. If you look at the forums, very rarely do any of us bother to type it all out. Thus, in my eyes, there’s value as a utilitarian device compared to a bitmap.

@corenominal, what did you think of the final result?

To much colour for me ;-)

@omns, I like it, but I do not think it suits CrunchBang. I was hoping Effy would explain his design decisions on the show, but he did not say much about it, other than that it was a first draft. Shame. :/
